DivX 6 for Mac Known Issues

This is a list of the known issues in the current version of DivX for the Mac operating system. If an issue is on this list, there is no need to report it to us as a bug - we already know about it. Please note that just because an issue appears on this list, that doesn't necessarily mean it will be fixed in the next version. Fixes for known issues will be prioritized based on their severity and how many users they affect.

Known Issues

  • The first time you double-click a DivX movie with a ".divx" file name extension, your Macintosh may bring up a window saying the movie will open in the "DivX Helper" application and ask if you want to proceed. If you are presented with this window, click the 'Open' button. This enables DivX movies to automatically be opened in QuickTime Player.
  • The programs iMovie, iMovie HD, Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express utilize a 16:9 aspect ratio and often create interlaced video. DivX does not currently recognize these attributes. As such, if you export video from these programs, you may not get the output you expect when exporting or converting with DivX. You can, however, configure DivX to properly work with such content as follows: In the 'Video' tab of the 'Codec Configure' user interface (UI), select '16:9 (Anamorphic)' under 'Aspect ratio based resize' and choose 'Deinterlace source' under 'Interlacing.'
  • For technical reasons, Movies created with DivX 6 for Mac will incorrectly appear in QuickTime Player as "DivX 5.0."

DivX Converter for Mac Known Issues

  • You can quit DivX Converter when the 'Custom Profile' UI is up. However, when you do, the Configure UI stays open until you dismiss it (encoding does not occur).
  • It may take a few seconds for the 'Custom Profile' UI window to appear if the first movie to be converted is lengthy. This is due to the fact that the Converter needs to scan portions of the movie to configure initial settings.
  • If you are converting more than one movie using the 'Custom Profile' and the first movie contains no audio, all movies will be converted without audio.
  • Certain video and audio formats, such as MPEG-2 audio and video, AC3 audio, and others, are not supported by QuickTime. As such, DivX Converter cannot convert movies that use these formats.
  • DivX Converter does not currently convert VOB files.
  • If you convert a movie whose name is greater than 25 characters in length (not including any file name extension), the Converter will output a DivX movie with an improper file name. To correct this, simply rename the created movie as desired and give it an extension of ".divx."
  • DivX Converter has no preferences but its 'Preferences...' menu item is always enabled.

DivX Installer for Mac Known Issues

  • The DivX 6 for Mac Installer will allow you to install on Mac OS X systems previous to version 10.3; even though the product is not intended to run on those earlier systems.
  • The DivX Installer will uninstall previous versions of DivX software from your Macintosh. This operation is not reversible.
