DivX Launches Secure 4K Live Streaming with MPEG-DASH

New capability enables OTT services to securely stream live 4K video using HEVC to multiple platforms

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 5, 2015—DivX, LLC, a leading provider of next-generation digital video solutions, today announced the launch of DivX® Live, featuring support for secure live streaming up to 4K using HEVC and MPEG-DASH. The new addition to the DivX Certified® program for HEVC enables Pay TV operators and OTT services to securely stream live video content to multiple platforms, including web, iOS, Android, smart TVs and other consumer electronics devices.

Short for Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP, DASH standardizes certain aspects of adaptive bitrate streaming of video over the Internet. Building on the company’s established reputation for driving new video standards into the market, DivX is one of the first technology providers to enable secure live streaming using MPEG-DASH, enabling the delivery of high value content such as major league sporting events.

DivX provides secure players and key management for cross-platform delivery for mobile and PC, along with a robust set of SDKs to ensure reliable, secure and high-quality live streaming on consumer electronics devices. The DivX secure players and license service deliver live video content using industry-standard Common Encryption, utilizing DivX Certified® secure key management to provide an extra layer of security.

“As part of our complete video delivery solution for OTT entertainment services, the DivX team is proud to deliver a live video streaming solution using MPEG-DASH,” said DivX President and CEO Dr. Kanaan Jemili. “This new capability empowers major sports organizations and other content owners to deliver a premium live streaming experience at up to 4K resolutions, which we believe will be a key driver for event-based OTT video delivery,” he added.

DivX Live is part of the DivX® OmniView™ solution that includes studio-approved DivX DRM to enable secure video distribution and high-quality streaming playback across multiple screens, including Android, iOS, Web, PCs, Smart TVs and set-top boxes. With support for video up to 4K and now secure live streaming, DivX OmniView enables OTT services to differentiate their experience as well as reduce operating costs with HEVC and MPEG-DASH, and helps extend their reach to multiple screens to broaden their subscriber base. The DivX Certified program allows IC and OEM customers to quickly bring to market mobile and consumer electronics products that support high-quality playback and streaming. To date, more than one billion DivX devices with DivX DRM embedded at the chip level have shipped worldwide from multiple major consumer electronics brands.

Visit DivX at 2015 International CES (South Hall, #31650) from January 6 to January 9 to see a demonstration of DivX Live. The new capability brings the advanced DivX video playback and DivX DRM for secure delivery to multiple screens, even in aircraft without an on-board Internet connection.

“The new in-flight entertainment capability of the DivX® OmniView™ solution furthers the DivX brand promise of delivering a better video experience across multiple screens. CES Sees DivX® OmniView™ Enable Secure Retail Bundling of 4K Movies with Ultra High-Definition TVs

LAS VEGAS, January 5, 2015—DivX, LLC, a leading provider of next-generation digital video solutions, today announced that its DivX® OmniView™ solution enables TV manufacturers to stream and bundle 4K content with TVs and other 4K-ready retail devices. To date, DivX OmniView has enabled some of the world’s major TV vendors, including LG Electronics, to offer 4K movies from a major Hollywood studio through a hard drive bundled with its TVs. At CES, the DivX booth (South Hall #31650) will demonstrate how DivX OmniView enables operators to deliver high-quality Video-On-Demand (VoD) and secure live content up to 4K through OTT streaming, as well as bundled on a hard-drive.

“Before a piece of 4K content can be made available to consumers, content owners require strict security to be met, so we’re delighted that operators are already bundling 4K movies with TVs protected by DivX® DRM, a key component of our DivX® OmniView™ solution,” said DivX President and CEO Dr. Kanaan Jemili. “There is a noticeable discrepancy between 4K-ready TVs sold at reasonable prices in retail and little 4K content available on Pay-TV or commercial OTT services. This lack of 4K content is driving TV manufacturers and retailers to provide consumers with 4K content bundles, either on a hard-drive or through streamed and VoD services. The DivX OmniView solution offers all the elements needed to enable manufacturers and retailers to meet the demand for 4K content from consumers that have a bought a 4K TV, who would otherwise be stuck with watching HD video on their amazing new 4K screens,” he added.

DivX OmniView enables secure video distribution and playback across multiple screens, including Android, iOS, Web, PCs, Smart TVs and set-top boxes. With support for video up to 4K and advanced streaming features, such as multi-language subtitles, chapter points and smooth trick play, DivX enables Over-The-Top (OTT) services to differentiate their experience as well as reduce operating costs using HEVC and DASH. In addition, DivX has been approved by the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) for use with UltraViolet™ services. With a base of more than 1 billion DivX Certified® devices, the DivX OmniView solution enables content providers and operators to extend the reach of their services to multiple screens and broaden their subscriber base.

Visit DivX at 2015 International CES (South Hall, #31650) from January 6 to January 9 to see DivX OmniView demonstrations. DivX will also exhibit at the CES ShowStoppers event, giving editors and industry analysts an exclusive, in-depth look at the company’s product portfolio. ShowStoppers is being held at the Wynn Hotel on Tuesday, January 6, from 6-9p.m.

The 2015 International CES Show will have more than 3,500 exhibitors, including manufacturers, developers, and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, and technology delivery systems.
