LG First to Adopt DivX HEVC DRM and Player Technology to Provide Secure 4K Content with its Next-Generation TVs

SAN DIEGO – DivX, LLC, a leading provider of next-generation digital video solutions, and Ultra HD 4K TV leader LG Electronics announced that they will bundle premium Hollywood content in 4K resolution with selected new LG Ultra HD TVs using industry-leading DivX DRM for Ultra HD content.

LG adopted the DivX DRM and secure player technology, part of the DivX HEVC solution, based on its robust security, ease of integration and flexible use-cases. The Hollywood Studio content will be bundled on an external hard drive and DivX DRM will bind the files to the LG Ultra HD TV for a secure experience. In addition to bundling, DivX HEVC supports adaptive streaming and file-based playback of protected HD and Ultra HD/4k video.

“We want to show consumers who purchase our Ultra HD TVs the kind of amazing quality advancements that are possible with 4K technology and native 4K content, and the DivX solution allows us to do just that,” said Dr. Nandhu Nandhakumar, senior vice president of LG Electronics. “DivX enables us to securely bundle high-quality 4K content with a robust DRM solution that is ideal for our next-generation 10-bit Ultra HD TVs.”

“We are excited to work with our longtime partner LG to help bring state-of-the-art 4K video to consumers,” said Dr. Kanaan Jemili, CEO of DivX LLC. “LG has always been a market leader in adopting new technologies, and by choosing DivX HEVC and DRM solutions for their amazing Ultra HD TVs they are showing their commitment to extending that leadership position to the next-generation of consumer electronics devices.”

To date, over one billion DivX devices, including over 30,000 unique models, have shipped worldwide from multiple major consumer electronics brands. DivX recently received a 2014 Best Ultra HD Codec award from Ultra HDTV Magazine for its DivX 10 software and MainConcept HEVC SDK. DivX HEVC Ultra HD is the newest tier of content delivery solutions from DivX including encoding, multi-platform secure players, DRM and device certification for streaming and file based content.
