Convert AVI to MP4

AVI files are widely popular, however you may want to convert an AVI file to an MP4 file in order to better share your video. If you’ve been downloading videos or even watching videos online, you’ve likely encountered a file in the AVI (.avi) container format. AVI files (or Audio Video Interleave) are able to contain both video and audio, and have been a popular video format for many years. However, like all video files, there may be some limitations in video playback – especially across devices. Converting AVI files to MP4 files can make it easier to share files as you can reduce the file size and playback of MP4 videos is more common across devices (e.g. mobile phones).

Advanced Features in DivX ConverterIt’s simple to convert AVI files to MP4 files with DivX Converter. If you haven’t already, install the free DivX Software suite, which includes the DivX Player and DivX Converter. While the list below may be over-explaining, here are the steps to convert your video.

  1. Install free DivX desktop software
  2. Open DivX Converter
  3. Drag your video file onto DivX Converter
  4. Pick a profile (in this case MP4) and click “Start”

Convert MKV to MP4

If you’re looking to reduce file size or better share videos, you may need to convert MKV videos into MP4. MKV (or .mkv) is a flexible, open standard video file format that quickly became the preferred file extension for HD video on the Internet. The MKV container can include video, audio, and features such as alternate audio tracks, multilingual subtitles and chapter points, as well as rich metadata including cover art, ratings, descriptions and more. Customize DivX ConverterMKV offers a richer media experience than other current formats, and that’s why we use the MKV file container for DivX Plus and DivX HEVC video, which can be played and created using DivX Software.

However, for overall compatibility across devices, websites, etc., you may want to convert your MKV to an MP4. MP4 video can be smaller in size and is optimized for mobile devices. Fortunately, you can easily convert MKV files to MP4 files with DivX Converter – part of the free DivX Software suite. Follow the simple steps below to begin converting in no time.

A reliable and free AVI video player is extremely useful given the popularity of AVI video files. You may have seen .avi files (AVI is short for Audio Video Interleave) as it’s been a popular video file format for many years. First introduced in the early 1990s, AVI is still widely used today and can be found in many different types of media, such as movies, TV shows, and music videos.

Stream to TV with PS4 and DivX Media Server

By Jeremy Park

If you’re like me then you have years and years worth of digital videos stored on your computer hard drive(s). Files upon files of family vacations, kids growing up, plus that hearty collection of Internet videos. Whether it’s to comment on my changing hair color or to see themselves as babies, my kids love to watch the videos I took of them over the years. Sometimes we just watch those videos on the computer using DivX Player, however my kids prefer when I cast those videos to our big screen TV in our family room. To enjoy my home movies on the TV, I simply use the DivX Media Server to stream video to our Playstation. Don’t have a gaming console? No problem, DivX Media Server will work with nearly any smart TV that’s connected to the same WiFi network.

What is the DivX Media Server?

The DivX Media Server is part of our free DivX Player and it allows you to serve and send video files on your PC or Mac to a device on your home network (for example, your smart TV or gaming console). If you’re curious about how this works, the playback is done through DLNA. Remember that the device you’re streaming to must also be able to support playback of the format of your video file.

I use a PS4 to stream my content from my computer to my TV … which is more relaxing than getting yelled at by angry teammates during Call of Duty. Here’s how I use the DivX Media server with my PS4:

1. Make sure that the PC and PS4 are on the same WiFi network.

2. Install DivX Player (part of free DivX Software) and enable the DivX Media Server.

3. Add the folders containing your videos to the DivX Media Server

4. If needed, install Media Player on your PS4. This can be downloaded from the PlayStation store (see below)

5. On the PS4 open the Media Player and select the DivX Media server from the list of available media servers.

6. Navigate to your videos and enjoy them on the big screen.

Keep in mind that whether you can play your videos will depend on the video formats supported by the device you are serving videos to. You can expand support to include .mkv files by also installing FFMPEG for transcoding.

Take Control of Your Videos with DivX Converter

By Marcio Dirickson

Everything is being recorded. Not in a Big-Brother-is-spying-on-you way (although that may also be true), but in a everyone-has-a-recording-device kind of way. Most of us record video on an almost daily basis with our smartphone and action cameras to semi (or fully) professional DSLRs. In addition to recording family with my phone and diving excursions on my GoPro, I also use a dashcam and have captured some great footage along the way.

So we all have tons of content recorded on our devices … now what?

To truly enjoy our content, we want to watch it how and where we want. This is where DivX Converter (part of DivX Software) and the easy-to-use advanced features come in handy. The converter can encode your videos into a format you want and eliminate the need to understand a variety of video formats, audio codecs and more.

The DivX Pro version of the DivX Converter has some powerful editing capabilities that are simple to use even if you have no experience with video editing. The main three features that I’ve found useful are the ability to trim, crop and add a watermark — and you can also rotate and resize the video you are looking to encode as well.

TRIMMING YOUR VIDEO:
One of the advanced editing tools of DivX Converter is the ability to trim your video just to include the portion you want. This is done by selecting the clip duration of exactly what you want to keep through setting the start and end time using the timeline and handy buttons. The timeline to the right of the video will also show a preview of what the selected clip will look like, as well as show what is selected in blue, while what is being discarded is shown in black.

CROPPING VIDEO:
You may also want to crop your video to focus your recording. This allows you to remove any unwanted parts of the video — on either side of your video, by any desired amount. Once you set your crop, you’ll see a preview of what is being cropped out in the converter preview window on the right. In this example, we are only showing how to crop and will not actually crop any of the video.

DivX Converter Advanced Features

ADDING A WATERMARK:
If you want to personalize your video, you can add a watermark (of your logo, name, etc.). You can use the handy presets for each corner, or you have the choice to set an X Y coordinate, if desired. Using a .png or any other image format with transparency is recommended, as you can see with the DivX logo example below.

Hopefully this helps you take control of your video. If you have any questions about DivX Pro (and DivX Converter), head on over to our Support site and find some answers or submit a new question. Enjoy and happy converting!
