New capability enables OTT services to securely stream live 4K video using HEVC to multiple platforms

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 5, 2015—DivX, LLC, a leading provider of next-generation digital video solutions, today announced the launch of DivX® Live, featuring support for secure live streaming up to 4K using HEVC and MPEG-DASH. The new addition to the DivX Certified® program for HEVC enables Pay TV operators and OTT services to securely stream live video content to multiple platforms, including web, iOS, Android, smart TVs and other consumer electronics devices.

Short for Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP, DASH standardizes certain aspects of adaptive bitrate streaming of video over the Internet. Building on the company’s established reputation for driving new video standards into the market, DivX is one of the first technology providers to enable secure live streaming using MPEG-DASH, enabling the delivery of high value content such as major league sporting events.

DivX provides secure players and key management for cross-platform delivery for mobile and PC, along with a robust set of SDKs to ensure reliable, secure and high-quality live streaming on consumer electronics devices. The DivX secure players and license service deliver live video content using industry-standard Common Encryption, utilizing DivX Certified® secure key management to provide an extra layer of security.

“As part of our complete video delivery solution for OTT entertainment services, the DivX team is proud to deliver a live video streaming solution using MPEG-DASH,” said DivX President and CEO Dr. Kanaan Jemili. “This new capability empowers major sports organizations and other content owners to deliver a premium live streaming experience at up to 4K resolutions, which we believe will be a key driver for event-based OTT video delivery,” he added.

DivX Live is part of the DivX® OmniView™ solution that includes studio-approved DivX DRM to enable secure video distribution and high-quality streaming playback across multiple screens, including Android, iOS, Web, PCs, Smart TVs and set-top boxes. With support for video up to 4K and now secure live streaming, DivX OmniView enables OTT services to differentiate their experience as well as reduce operating costs with HEVC and MPEG-DASH, and helps extend their reach to multiple screens to broaden their subscriber base. The DivX Certified program allows IC and OEM customers to quickly bring to market mobile and consumer electronics products that support high-quality playback and streaming. To date, more than one billion DivX devices with DivX DRM embedded at the chip level have shipped worldwide from multiple major consumer electronics brands.
