DivX, Inc. and GreenCine Announce Online Film Festival Finalists

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–June 1, 2005–GreenCine (www.greencine.com), the preeminent Video-on-Demand and DVD Rent-by-Mail company with an unsurpassed collection of independent, international and classic films, and DivX, Inc. (www.divx.com), the company that created the revolutionary, patent-pending DivX® video compression technology, today announced the finalists of the GreenCine Online Film Festival, presented by DivX, Inc.

The finalists in the narrative feature category are: “White Knuckles” (2004), directed by Leo Scherman; “IPO” (2004), directed by Daniel Gamburg; “Red Cockroaches” (2004), directed by Miguel Coyula; “Peep Show” (2004), directed by J.X. Williams; and “Security” (2005), directed by Rob Nilsson (“Heat and Sunlight,” “Signal 7”). The judges for the narrative competition are Holly Willis, Lawrence Inglee and Jerome “Gej” Rota.

The finalists in the documentary feature category are: “Piece by Piece” (2004), directed by Nic Hill; “Empire of Juramidam” (2004), directed by Colum Stapleton; “Visiting Shane” (2005), directed by Varda Hardy; “About Baghdad” (2004), directed by Sinan Antoon, Bassam Haddad, Maya Mikdashi, Suzy Salamy and Adam Shapiro; and “The End of Suburbia” (2004), directed by Gregory Greene. The judges for the documentary category are Mark Kitchell, Hollis Gillespie and David Kopple.

Both Rob Nilsson’s “Security” and Varda Hardy’s “Visiting Shane” enjoy their world premieres at the Online Film Festival.

Each finalist will be up on www.greencine.com from June 1 through June 26, and will be available for download in the secure DivX format. Customers who download a contending film will be able to rank it, with all online audience votes counting towards an Audience Award. Each Grand Prize winner as selected by the panel of judges will receive $2,500 and a theatrical screening in San Francisco.
