DivX Powers Access to Massive INA Media Archive

May 1, 2006

Thousands of Hours of Content to Be Available From French Broadcast History

Paris and San Diego–May 1, 2006–The Institut National de l’Audiovisuel (INA) of France and DivX, Inc. today announced that DivX technology will provide the platform to allow web access and purchase of the vast holdings of the state owned multimedia archive.
INA will distribute thousands of titles from the archive’s catalog online in the secure, high-quality DivX format, playable on tens of millions of DivX Certified DVD players and other devices available from major manufacturers throughout the world. With over 250 million downloads worldwide, DivX is a digital media format that enables video to be compressed to 7-10 times smaller than MPEG-2/DVD files for secure digital distribution over IP networks. The DivX media format offers a full DVD-like experience with interactive menus, chapters, subtitles, alternate audio tracks and rich metadata.

“We chose DivX because of the unique DRM and interoperability they offer,” said Safia D’Ziri, IT Director at INA. “DivX will enable our users to rediscover TV content on their television sets.” “The DivX vision focuses on helping consumers experience the content that is meaningful to them in the most useful way, and there are few video holdings with more cultural value than INA,” said Jerome “Gej” Vashisht-Rota, co-founder of DivX, Inc. “Everything we’ve accomplished at DivX has been an effort to truly make media better through both technology and community, and bringing INA content to a wider audience is absolutely in service of that mission.”
