LSI DVD Recorder Processors Earn Certification to Record and Play Back High-Quality DivX Content

January 8, 2007

CES, LAS VEGAS, Nev., Jan 8, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ — LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), the pioneer in media processing technology, today announced that its third-generation DoMiNo(R) DVD recorder media processor product line, consisting of the DoMiNo DMN-8603, DMN-8623, and DMN-8633 are DivX(R) Recorder Certified by DivX, Inc. (Nasdaq: DIVX).
DivX video technology is one of the most popular media formats and compression technologies. Using the DivX codec’s efficient encoding algorithms to record video content makes it possible to record up to 12 hours of content on a single DVD.

By supporting the DivX format, the DMN-3 family of DVD recorder processors gives consumers a convenient way to play, create and share highly-compressed, high-quality video content. This can all be done in the comfort of the living room without requiring the cost or complexity of a PC.

“LSI continues to offer our customers new and innovative solutions that provide richer experiences — whether it be recording, viewing or sharing video content,” said Jim Fox, director of DVD recorder marketing, Consumer Products Group, LSI Logic. “The ability of the DoMiNo DVD recorder processors to support DivX encoding and decoding, in addition to many other audio and video formats, highlights the power and flexibility of the DoMiNo architecture.”

Designed to address both worldwide and unique geographic requirements, each member of the DMN-3 DVD recorder processor family is highly integrated with advanced features. For example, the DMN-8603 is the ideal solution for worldwide, analog single-drive DVD recorders, while the DMN-8633 is ideal for ATSC digital markets and the DMN-8623 for single-drive DVB DVD recorders, typically for the European market.

“The DivX Certified(R) Recorder program will enable consumers to record more high-quality video content on DVD-R devices without sacrificing visual quality,” said Kevin Hell, CXO, Partners and Licensing at DivX, Inc. “We are pleased to extend our partnership with LSI Logic and strengthen the common media language we are building through the open DivX ecosystem.”

About DivX, Inc.
DivX creates products and services designed to improve the experience of media. Our first product offering was a video compression-decompression software library, or codec, which has been actively sought out and downloaded over 200 million times in the last four years, including over 60 million times during the last twelve months. We have since built on the success of our codec with other consumer software, including the DivX Player application, which is distributed from our website, www.divx.com. We also license our technologies to consumer hardware device manufacturers and certify their products to ensure the interoperable support of DivX-encoded content. In addition to technology licensing to consumer hardware device manufacturers, we currently generate revenue from software licensing, advertising and content distribution.
