WISchip Delivers Industry’s First DivX(R)-Certified Video Encoder Solution

January 3, 2005

WISchip’s GO7007SB Encoding ASIC SDK’s receive DivX Encoder Certification status, enabling rapid time to market for OEMs.

LAS VEGAS–Consumer Electronics Tradeshow–(PRNewswire)–January 4, 2005–WISchip International, a global provider of digital video and audio semiconductor solutions, today announced that its Advanced Video Capture SDK’s based on GO7007SB video encoder chip technology has received DivX certification from DivXNetworks, Inc., a leader in high-quality video compression technology for creating, editing, and distributing multimedia content. This marks the world’s first single-chip video encoder with comprehensive system software and a Linux/Windows software developer’s kit to pass the certification requirements needed to achieve DivX Encoder Certification status. DivX is one of the world’s most popular video compression technologies with over 250 million DivX software downloads.

“As the first DivX-certified video encoder chip solution, WISchip’s GO7007SB will enable manufacturers to deliver superior playback, based on our video format, for a wide range of industries and applications,” said Tm Windsor, product manager, Hardware Encoding and Portable Devices at DivXNetworks. “The WISchip video encoder chip is highly versatile and can used for home entertainment, PC and Macintosh media centers, and surveillance applications. And all of their reference designs for each of these diverse markets are DivX certified which will enable us to introduce our video technology into new markets.” The WISchip GO7007SB is a multi-format video encoder chip that compresses CCIR601/656 video into DivX, MPEG-1/2/4, MJPEG, or H.263 formats. In addition, it provides precise audio/video synchronization, improved error resiliency for irregular H-sync and V-sync video sources, and employs a motion-adaptive de-interlacing scheme to ensure optimal video quality. As a broadly applicable video encoder chip, the GO7007SB is designed for multimedia PC, digital and personal video recorders, set top boxes, video conferencing applications, surveillance, and MPEG-enabled digital still and video cameras. Using patented compression algorithms, the GO7007SB delivers up to D1 sized streaming video at 30 frames-per-second for superior image quality.

“Delivering the industry’s first DivX certified video encoder chip provides our systems manufacturer customers with a significant time-to-market advantage,” said Jim Mannos, President and CEO of WISchip International. “By deploying our video encoder chip solution, our customers will be able to brand their products with the DivX-Certified logo to signify their systems are fully compatible with DivX video technology.”

The DivX Certified Encoder Program is a quality and interoperability standard that enables hardware companies to make their encoder products compatible with DivX video technology. The DivX Certified program ensures that DivX video will playback on any DivX Certified product. In order for a product to become a DivX Certified Encoder, the product must create video that fully conforms to the DivX video format specification.
