What is DivX 6 for Mac?

DivX 6 for Mac is a digital video creation and playback software suite, complete with all the tools you need to create and play DivX video files on the Macintosh platform. DivX 6 for Mac includes the DivX codec (with Pro features), DivX Web Player and DivX Converter application.

What are the minimum system requirements for using DivX 6 for Mac?

  • Mac OS X 10.3.9 with QuickTime 6 or later
  • Mac OS X 10.4 or later with QuickTime 7

What can I do with the DivX codec for Mac?

The DivX codec plugs in to your existing QuickTime application, allowing you to play back every version of DivX video including DivX 3, 4, 5 and 6. The DivX codec also enables you to create DivX videos from within QuickTime Pro or any other video application with QuickTime export capabilities (e.g. iMovie, Final Cut Pro). The Pro features of the codec that enable better compression and higher visual quality while encoding are included as a 6-month trial.

What can I do with DivX Converter for Mac?

DivX Converter is a drag and drop video conversion tool for turning nearly any digital video file into a DivX video in one simple step. DivX Converter takes all the guesswork out of converting videos to DivX, letting you quickly and easily compress your bulky video files into lean, mean DivX videos.

Does DivX for Mac support DivX 6 files with advanced features?

Yes and no. While DivX for Mac will allow you to create DivX 6 files and play back DivX video files created with any version of the codec, including DivX 6 files, DivX for Mac does not yet support the creation or playback of the advanced DivX Media Format features introduced with DivX 6.

How much does DivX 6 for Mac cost?

DivX 6 for Mac costs $19.99 USD. However, registered users of previous paid versions of DivX Pro can upgrade to DivX 6 for Mac at the reduced price of $9.99 USD. Is DivX 6 compatible with all versions of the Macintosh operating system?

DivX 6 for Mac is intended only for Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later and is compatible with QuickTime version 6 and 7 or any other Macintosh video program with QuickTime export capabilities.

How does the DivX Converter for Mac differ from the DivX Converter for Windows?

First the bad news; DivX Converter for Mac does not yet create DivX media files with all the advanced features of the DivX Media Format. Now for the good news; don't tell your Mac deprived friends (they don't need more reasons to be jealous) but the DivX Converter for Mac includes a few extra features and controls not yet available in the Windows version. For example, the DivX Converter for Mac includes an advanced settings screen where you can crop and resize video files or adjust bitrates manually to control the quality versus the speed of encoding.

Can DivX Converter for Mac convert VOB files to DivX?

Unfortunately, the DivX Converter for Mac does not support conversion to DivX from the VOB file format at this time.

Does DivX for Mac include an audio codec?

Yes, DivX for Mac includes a built-in mp3 encoder.

Are discounts available to previously registered users?

Can I install DivX for Mac on multiple computers?

Sorry, a personal use license (that's the $19.99 USD one) lets you install DivX for Mac on only one computer; but it is flexible enough to let you reinstall if necessary.

May I use DivX for commercial purposes?

Yes, but you will need a commercial license. The cost of a commercial license varies depending on your intended use. If you're interested in more information, read the DivX Licensing Overview.

Can I burn my DivX files to CD or DVD?

Yes you can. Burning DivX video content to a CD or DVD on the Macintosh platform is joyously easy. Simply insert a blank disc, drag and drop the files you wish to burn onto the disc icon and select 'Burn disc' from within the 'File' menu, or just drag the disc icon to the trash can (the trash icon will switch to a yellow and black burn icon if your drive is properly equipped). Alternately, you can use a program like Roxio Toast 7 to compress and copy DivX files to a CD or DVD with a few more options and features.
